A Special Guest Artist Reception will be held Friday, July 8th from 5-8pm at Gallery at Marina Square

Whether photographing white tip sharks in 6000 feet of open ocean or patiently cajoling a tiny clown fish into camera view, underwater photographer Mike Francis draws on years of experience observing underwater creatures to capture their natural behavior on film.

Mike has been scuba diving since 1959. He is a retired San Luis Obispo schoolteacher and has been a professional divemaster and scuba instructor since 1965. He began his underwater photography pursuit during a vacation in Tahiti in 1973. Since then, Mike has photographed marine life from the shores of the Bahamas, Caribbean, and South Pacific. The lure of the Islands became so powerful that he moved to Andros Island in the Bahamas or two years and worked as a divemaster at Small Hope Bay Lodge.

Mike enjoys photographing ll marine life—from big fish and large rays to animals no larger than a postage stamp. Mike’s photographs have been published in Skin Diver Magazine and numerous Bahamas travel guides. He has always enjoyed showing his slides to clubs and schools.

Mike is a photo society member, and exhibits in and around San Luis Obispo county.
