George Asdel
I decided to do a series of animal paintings based on the endangered species list. Most of my art also includes human beings (which should be on the endangered species list too) However, I usually insert some whimsical element.

I used bamboo sticks of different sizes dipped in black acrylic paint for several paintings and brushes with acrylic color on others. Many of the smaller pieces are pen and ink and water color.

My poetry is similar to my visual art since most of it contains some whimsy. Much of my poetry is based on my drawings. All forms of whimsy are endangered in our serious world today, but humor sneaks into the back doors of our brains and helps us deal with the more serious stuff.

George Asdel’s exhibition “ Endangered Whimsy” can be viewed at Gallery at Marina Square throughout the month of March, from the 1st through the 29th.

Kira Fluer Olshefski—Guest Artist

Gallery at Marina Square Presents Our Guest Artist Exhibit for March 2013: “Reclaiming America’s Heritage”

A Guest Artist Reception will be held Friday, March 8th from 5-8pm at Gallery at Marina Square

Kira Fluer Olshefski
Kira Fluer Olshefski is a Central Coast artist residing in Atascadero, California. She feels extremely blessed to be living in such a wonderful area that provides her with a variety of landscape options to oil paint.

Kira has a love for art, antiques and America. Her latest show is called “Reclaiming America’s Heritage”. In this show, patrons will see all three of her loves combined to form multi media art. Kira’s art work is framed in wood from Midwestern barns dating from 1840-1880. Shadow boxes made from reclaimed barn wood not only encase Kira’s art work, but also vintage items representative of her subject matter. Artwork framed in barn wood comes complete with a written history of the barn that was once slated to be lost forever.

Kira’s art captures a moment in time that can never be repeated. Paintings for this show include Central Coast landscapes and agricultural scenes that are a part of America’s heritage.

Kira Fluer Olshefski’s exhibition, “Reclaiming America’s Heritage,” of oil and mixed media paintings, can be viewed at Gallery at Marina Square throughout the month of March, from the 1st through the 29th.
