Alice Cahill—Featured Artist

Gallery at Marina Square Presents Our Featured Artist Exhibit for June 2014: “Light Journeys”

Featured Artist Reception will be held Friday, June 13th from 5-8pm at Gallery at Marina Square

Alice Cahill
In my photography I strive to see with the eyes of my heart, to find the essence of my photographic subjects. With a sense of wonder I explore Nature's wild places, her textures and designs. My images convey a deep spiritual connection with Nature. I believe the natural world is a healing force and a refuge from the chaos of daily life. When we are quiet and listen, we can find peace and discover our own inner voice of wisdom.

I have been honored to receive numerous awards for my photography. Most recently I was the Grand Prize winner of Audubon Magazine’s 2012 contest and my photo of a Northern Red-shafted Flicker was published on the cover of the January/February issue of the magazine in 2013. I won a trip to Peru as part of my award. My journey to South America opened my eyes to a vast new land filled with fascinating people and animals. I had the privilege of visiting Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, and the Amazon jungle on this trip.

I am a member of the North American Nature Photography Association and the National Association of Photoshop Professionals. My photography is also represented by Getty Images.

Jeff Odell—Guest Artist

Gallery at Marina Square Presents Our Guest Artist Exhibit for June 2014: “35 Years of Plein Air”

A Guest Artist Reception will be held Friday, June 13th from 5-8pm at Gallery at Marina Square

Jeff Odell
Jeff Odell has pursued the “truth of color” for more than 30 years on the Central California Coast, painting rural/urban landscapes, seascapes, portraits and figures, interior studies, and “anything that will sit long enough to serve as a subject.” He has created public artwork within the City of Morro Bay, including two “Art Cans” (large concrete trash cans turned into murals); one is located at the top of the Centennial Stairway, next to Dorn’s Breakers Café, the other is at 845 Embarcadero. He has a large mural on the north wall of the Backstage Salon, located at 960 Main Street, and he has also worked with school children to create a large painting on canvas, which hangs in the multi-purpose room at Del Mar Elementary School in north Morro Bay.

A major influence for Jeff was his experience in the painting studio of nationally recognized painter and Professor Emeritus Wilbur Niewald, who taught that the only way to get at the visual truth of color is to work directly from nature.
