Gallery at Marina Square Presents Our Guest Artist Photography Exhibit for May 2015

A Guest Artist Reception will be held Friday, May 8th, from 5-8pm at Gallery at Marina Square

John Gannon
“As a photographer, I spend my days living through the lens of a camera. Compositional lines are everywhere and I find myself constantly studying how light affects various objects around me, no matter how mundane the scene may be to an average individual. I find pleasure as a photographer in sharing a different perspective on life and to offer the world as I see it, full of life and color.

Each of my photos tells a story and, no matter how large or small the scene may be, has meaning in my life and represents a bit my personality. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into my life and can appreciate the world as I see it, through my eyes.”

Susan Wood—Featured Artist

Gallery at Marina Square Presents Our Guest Artist Exhibit for May 2015: “Sea, Sky, and Tangled Trees”

A Featured Artist Reception will be held Friday, May 8th, from 5-8pm at Gallery at Marina Square

Susan Wood
I spent many of my childhood years in Italy, and I guess you could say I became attached to the sea and find it hard to image living away from the ocean. In 2003 I moved to the Central Coast from the other coast (Massachusetts). I love the way a short walk here in Morro Bay can take me right to the water, I can pretty much always see it.

As long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in art. My parents were both artists, and I loved to draw and paint from a very early age. I lived in New York City in my teenage years, and I went to the High School of Music and Art. For college I went to to the School of Fine Arts at Boston University where I had classical training in drawing and painting, and in sculpture, my major.

When I arrived on the Central Coast, after spending several months traveling in Europe and across the country, I fell in love with it. I decided to stay and I started doing sculpture and life drawing after many years of not doing any artwork at all (working and raising a family). I soon found myself doing watercolors for the first time since I was a teenager, inspired by the beauty of this wonderful place.

I enjoy working “plein air,” with the challenges of  wind, temperature, light, and tide constantly changing. I feel my most successful paintings have a quality of spontaneity and freshness that watercolor is so suitable for. My goal is to capture the energy and the essence of the setting, rather than to be exactingly realistic.
